Happy Friday!
Here is your weekly snippet of what I’m loving, learning, following, buying, and reading!
- So yesterday, I was working on an expedited transcript for a client. I received a telephone call from an attorney that they had forgotten to schedule a court reporter! While it wasn’t one of my regular clients, I was in a position to finish up my rush and head downtown to help them out. Needless to say, they were ecstatic! The arbitrator had flown in from out of town and had a hard stop. Upon my arrival to the job, there was a room full of lawyers, witnesses, and the arbitrator. To my utter amazement, all participants proceeded to stand and gave me a hearty round of applause! This will be forever etched in my memory, for sure. It’s the little things we can do to make a difference, and I’m happy to help out whenever it’s possible.
2. This week I’m going to be devoting this block to more of a self-care topic. As court reporters, we experience a sedentary life for most of our days. We do need to be mindful of our bodies so that we can continue on as best we can in order to thrive in our career. Recently, my husband and I decided we would try the vegan lifestyle — it’s been going really well for the past six months, actually. It’s relatively easy to do when we are supporting each other. We were looking for options in order to hopefully control my husband’s diabetes, and our goal is for him to eventually get off the small-dose medication he is currently on.
With that in mind, I wanted to share an Instagram account that I am totally loving right now — 40aprons. Cheryl Malik is a genius! Her feed is simply divine — the photographs are amazing, she’s honest and real, and shares the most amazing family-friendly and delicious food options. Here’s just a sample of one of her photographs of a vegan “Flaky Donut.” Make sure to head to her link in her bio for full recipes and instructions.
3. July was our vacation month. We headed out west to Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Tetons National Park. Love seeing our country and all its grandeur! My husband and I love taking photographs. We don’t want to always be behind the camera lens and, then, not being able to fully take in all the sights and sounds of nature. On those occasions, our iPhone is handy and ready to go. For those photos taken with my smartphone, my photo app of choice is Snapseed. Snapseed is a complete and professional photo editor developed by Google. It has so many features to perfect that photo to reflect as near as possible what the naked eye sees.
Here’s one of my photos from the Grand Tetons taken with my iPhone X and edited with Snapseed.
4. Since this Friday’s Fantastic Four is related generally to self-care, I thought I’d let the crafters out there know that I’m following Red Heart’s blog. There are so many benefits for court reporters that are knitting and crocheting! It keeps our hands in top shape for those days when we have those fast talkers. One of Red Heart’s most recent blog posts speaks about more benefits for those who knit and crochet.
The author of the post cites these top reasons for yarn crafting:
- creativity
- focused attention
- sense of purpose
- better self-esteem
Her article is titled: “How Crochet and Knitting Heal Us” and is a must-read. Click here for the link.
Then, I thought I’d share my most recent crochet project for an expectant mom. I thought she’d enjoy a different option for the traditional diaper bag for those small outings. This was a super-fun project for me to do for her!
